Le gymnaste Alexandre Maspoli était aussi un haltérophilede renommée mondiale, il fut par la suite un statuaire célèbre.
Alexandre Maspoli (29 septembre 1875 - 25 septembre 1943) est un statutaire lyonnais. Il est également un célèbre athlète champion du monde d'haltérophilie.
Au championnat du monde d' haltérophilie1902 à Londres, Alexandre Maspoli améliore les records existants et s’affirme supérieur aux Anglais.
Aux Jeux Olympique d'Athènes de 1906 il remporte une médaille de bronze. Il souleva 129,5 kilogramme dans la catégorie poids lourd à deux bras.
Assisté du sculpteur J. Lesage, il réalise le monument aux morts de La Côte-Saint-André. La composition est riche en symbolique (coq, poilu, croix de guerre, palmes de la paix) et rappelle le travail des femmes pendant la guerre.
Il réalisa au début des années 1920 le monument aux morts d'Arcachon.
Il réalisa à paris en 1934 le monument à Frantz Reichel avec l'architecte Tony Garnier

The great French lifter Alexandre' Maspoli was born in Lyons in 1875 and was an amateur champion an astounding 19 years in a row (1901 to 1920). He won a Bronze Medal at the 1906 Olympic Games. He also competed in the long jump in the 1906 games but did not place. Maspoli's greatest lifts include a right hand snatch of 207-1/2 pounds, a two-dumbbell clean and press of 231-3/4 pounds, and a two-dumbbell jerk of 298 pounds. Maspoli was also a successful sculptor.
