Raisin des teinturiers

Dans la cour de l'hôtel de Vauluisant de Troyes on peut encore voir des fleurs et des fruits de "raisin des teinturiers". Vigne de Judée ou herbe à la laque.

In front of the hotel of Vauluisant can be seen flowers and fruits of poke root ( phytolacca decandra).
Pour voir d'autres fleurs rendez-vous sur le site,

I'm very familiar with poke berries here in West Virginia (US). I find it amusing they are in front of a gorgeous hotel.
Lovely images!

When I was a kid my mom would make us go out in the spring and pick poke when it was just 5-10 inches tall. She would roll it in cormeal and fry it and as I recall it was really good.

I thought they were elderberries, I am not familiar with poke berries. Great photos.....

We call it (or something very much like it) pokeweed. I think it's very pretty. ;-)

Interesting. In New Jersey those are considered "invasive", so one tries not to have them grow in one's garden. Love the old hotel.
